What Can You Put in a Dumpster?

June 30, 2026

Knowing what you can put in a dumpster helps you plan your rental and avoid disposal issues. Douglas Dumpster accepts most non-hazardous household, construction, and yard waste across Northwest Indiana.

Accepted Items

  • Household furniture: sofas, mattresses, tables, chairs, dressers, and boxes of clutter
  • Construction debris: drywall, lumber, roofing shingles, tile, flooring, and siding scraps
  • Appliances: refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, stoves, and air conditioners
  • Yard waste: branches, brush, leaves, sod, fencing, and deck boards
  • Bulk items: estate cleanout contents, garage clutter, and storage unit items

Items We Cannot Accept

For safety and environmental reasons, we cannot accept hazardous chemicals, wet paint, asbestos, tires, automotive batteries, gasoline, propane tanks, or medical waste. If you are unsure about a specific item, call us before your rental.

Plan Your Load

To get the most value from your dumpster rental, break down large items, load heavy materials first, and fill evenly. This helps you fit more into the dumpster and keeps the load stable for safe transport.
